Varna's golden beaches: from Zlatni Pyasatsi to hidden coves

Golden Sands, jewel of the Bulgarian coast

Zlatni Pyasatsi, or Golden Sands, is Bulgaria's most famous beach resort. Its beach stretches over 3.5 km of fine golden sand, lined with oak and linden forests. The shallow, calm waters make it an ideal spot for families with children. The resort offers a wide range of water activities: jet skiing, parasailing, banana boats and scuba diving.

Sunny Day Beach and the Blue Flag label

Located between Varna and Golden Sands, Sunny Day Beach has held the Blue Flag label since 1996, guaranteeing impeccable water quality and environmental standards. More intimate than its neighbour, it appeals to travellers seeking tranquillity without sacrificing comfort. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire, and several fresh fish restaurants line the shore.

Varna's urban beaches

Varna's South Beach, stretching over 600 metres, is the most spacious of all the city beaches. Situated at the foot of the Sea Garden, it is easily accessible on foot from the city centre. Kabakum Beach, a little further north, offers a flat, shallow seabed perfect for swimming. Beach sports, pedal boats and a laid-back, typically Bulgarian atmosphere await visitors.

Tips for making the most of the beaches

The bathing season runs from June to September, with water temperatures reaching 24 to 26 degrees in July and August. At the beginning and end of the season, beaches are far less crowded and accommodation prices drop by 30 to 50 per cent. Consider renting a bicycle to ride along the coastline between the different beaches, taking advantage of the cycle paths along the Sea Garden.
